Coronary flow reserve (CFR): The ratio of maximal achievable coronary flow under pharmacologic stimulation/exercise and baseline coronary flow. Cine magnetic resonance imaging: A type of imaging technique used primarily in the field of cardiology. By triggering a MRI sequence with prospective ECG gating, numerous short time frames evenly spaced in the cardiac cycle are produced. These images are sequenced together in a cinematic display so that wall motion of the ventricles, valve motion, and blood flow patterns in the heart and great vessels can be visualized. Gating: Use of an electronic signal from the cardiac cycle to trigger an event, such as in imaging separate phases of cardiac contraction. Infarct: An area of tissue death due to a local lack of oxygen. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): A special imaging technique used to image internal structures of the body, particularly the soft tissues. It uses the influence of a large magnet to polarize …

Late gadolinium enhancement imaging in assessment of myocardial viability: techniques and clinical applications.

Assessment of myocardial viability is of ever-evolving interest in cardiovascular imaging, with major societies having incorporated viability imaging as class I or class IIa indications in their guidelines to better guide patient management. As with late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (MR), assessment of residual myocardial viability or the extent of myocardial infarction is ...

Functional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the assessment of myocardial viability and perfusion: an evidence-based analysis.

OBJECTIVE The objective of this health technology policy assessment was to determine the effectiveness safety and cost-effectiveness of using functional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment of myocardial viability and perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction. RESULTS Functional MRI has become increasingly investigated as a noni...

Myocardial ischemia and viability by cardiac magnetic resonance: the international experience and the Greek reality.

C ardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), a relatively new imaging technique, has already proven its efficacy in the assessment of myocardial function, inflammation, tissue characterisation, and viability. Currently, the applications of CMR in coronary artery disease are being extended, making it a powerful diagnostic tool in the evaluation of myocardial perfusion and viability. The aim of this...

Magnetic resonance imaging for the assessment of myocardial viability.

The identification of myocardial viability in the setting of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is crucial for the prediction of functional recovery following revascularization. Although echocardiography, positron emission tomography (PET), and nuclear imaging have validated roles, recent advances in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) technology and availability have led to increased experience in...
